24 January 2018 Period D The New York Times January 24, 2018 “Trump Sharply Warns Turkey Against Military Strikes in Syria” By GARDINER HARRIS This article is about the tensions between Turkey and United States about the growing issue involving military action. President Trump warned President Tayyip Erdogan against the rising risk of conflict. The Turkish President, demanded that the United States end its support for Kurdish militias. Both Presidents of Turkish and United States spoke over the line about Turkish forces attacking Kurdish militias in Syria. President Trump “urged Turkey to exercise caution and to avoid any actions that might risk conflict between Turkish and American forces.” He argued that they should leave the Kurdish alone, and focus on actually working together, then fighting each other, on the main goal which is agreed taking down the Islamic State. President Rump tone while talking with Mr. Erdogan was very different compared to the White house briefing they attended a few days earlier. Where they talked about the idea of siding or moving on from the issue with Turkey, which is one of our NATO allies ("is a designation given by the United States government to close allies who have strategic working relationships with U.S. Armed Forces"). Turkey has fought for many decades against Kurdish insurgent groups that Ankara (Capital Of Turkey) considers terrorist threats. The Kurdish President argued saying that there were no difference between the Islamic State and Kurdish Militias. President Erdogan questions whoever supports this organization, considering the “blood of tens of thousands of innocent children, women, elderly people and innocents on its hands.” He reminds us that Turkey is not invaders and could not stand by or support their actions. In Syria, a Turkish warplane launched a shell that fell near the northern city of Manbij, which is controlled by Kurdish forces. We are told that, that’s where United States troops have been stationed, where they’ve been training and equipping Kurdish forces. The conflict with this attack is the ongoing Turkish attack targeted Syrian border, which is controlled by Kurdish forces. Residents are blaming Americans for this attack, because they didn’t do anything to prevent it. The U.S and Turkey view the fight against the Islamic State on the same scale. This Event Happened In Syria/This Event Happened Days Ago This event happened because the Turkish believed that the Kurdish was a threat and demanded that the United States resign from protecting him. I believe that the reason why the Turkish are attacking the Kurdish is because they believe they have murdered thousands of innocent people. They are standing by their own views, but with being an ally with the United States. The Turkish should trust the U.S by their reasoning to stand by the Kurdish and protect them.
