What is Career Day at HTHNC? What is its purpose? The purpose of High Tech High career day is to experience different types of jobs in the field. At HTHNC we are required to shadow a person or job of interest. This gives us a opportunity to get connections to the real word and experience how it feels. It is also very helpful to us in the future, because we could be offered an internship, summer job, or invited back later in the future.
Describe where you went, who you shadowed, etc. (overview of your placement)? I went to shadow at Generali Global Assistance and I shadowed Melissa Arucan. I had a tour of the large business that is connected to international countries. I learned the different parts that the company needs and was able to listen in on some meetings.
Describe a typical work day at this site? On any weekday, work day begins at 6:30am and ends at 3:00pm. A CRM administrator is responsible for the maintenance of the CRM system. This is a customer relationship management tool that the company uses to manage data about connections with customers through the business process. The day is spent mostly in meetings with other departments to discuss and incorporate new procedures in CRM. The other half is focusing on current methods to ensure profitability. There are days when a CRM administrator has to train new employees on the CRM system or partner with the IT department to solve user’s issues.
What are the business's general work policies (tardiness, absence, dress code, technology use, etc.)? Employees of the company are expected to be in attendance regularly. In case of tardiness or absence, the employee must provide their supervisor with an explanation. Multiple incidences will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action.
What sort of tasks/activities are the people at this business participating in? Generali Global Assistance offers a suite of protection services for consumers and businesses. This includes travel insurance, identity theft, loss of loved one, travel assistance, and travel risk management. Sometimes, employees send mailings or brochures on products to generate business. However, most of the time employees attend trade shows to create new business relationships.
In what ways do you expect your high school classes and the skills you have learned to apply to this profession? Overall, a CRM administrator needs to be organized and ready to accept challenges. This job requires you to be able to collaborate with your coworkers, and you need the skill of discussing with others. What we do in high school will substantially help us in the work force.
What sort of credentials/degrees did your mentor need to have in order to gain this job? A CRM administrator should have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or similar. It requires a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365. Minimum of 5 years of experience testing and documenting CRM is highly wanted.
What new insight did you gain about working in the professional world by shadowing your mentor? What I learned and gained from this experience is there a numerous amount of jobs and job titles in the workforce. There are many pay differences in positions and it is all determined by you on what you want to do and make.
Is this a career you are interested in pursuing? Why/why not? This wouldn’t be a job I would consider pursuing, because I don’t think it fits my preference and interest. I would rather choose something I’m passionate about, for example something in the military force.
What would you like to keep in mind for Career Day 2018? (What would you have done differently this year? What do you want to make sure for next year?) What I keep in mind for Career Day 2018 is to contact more people and make sure my job I'm shadowing is something I'm very passionate about. What I would do differently this year is to find a job that I’m really passionate about. What I want to make sure for next year is to shadow someone where I can get a job offer.
3 Questions: How does your position (CRM Administrator) affect the company? A CRM Administrator is crucial for the success of your CRM system. I am required to work with different departments to help customize the system so that users want to use the system. I need to have a solid understanding of business processes to help build relationships with key groups. I must also have the analytical skills to respond to changes and customization. Without a strong CRM Administrator, the company will not be able to determine their opportunity pipeline and will not remain profitable.
What are your hours and do they usually stay the same? Work days hours go from 6:30 am - 3:00 pm. But there is sometimes options to work from home.
