Group Collaboration: My group members were Sydney and Halia. One of our group members didn’t really contribute much to the group, but other than that our group was able to collaborate and get the task finished. A group member and I were able to split the workload evenly, this was a strength that helped us complete all of the assignments. We would set deadlines and we had really great communication with each other, telling one another what to get done. In terms of collaboration a group member and I were able to work very well together and had never had any problems. We would put our ideas out and share them and then execute them. But a group member didn’t really contribute and it was hard to collaborate with this person because they didn’t want to do their work. Some areas for improvement is to somehow get others involved and that means giving them a push to get going. For example with the persuasive essay we could of wrote the thesis statement and then that would give that person a clear idea of what they were doing. But besides that I feel like I could improve on finding what other group members strengths are and splitting the work from there.
Humanities: In Humanities we learned we read Fahrenheit 451 throughout the project. The book was very interesting it displayed a totalitarian regime, the government controlled certain things in your life. In this project we also were assigned a totalitarian regime, from this we went in deep research. With this we connect the regime to three examples of a totalitarian regime, for example we found evidence that connected it to a Single Unchallenged Ruler, Police Terror and Freedom of Thought Speech. We also learned how to create a zine which is debating about a controversial topic that adults argue about. From this I learned how to argue both sides of a topic and look at each side. I could use what I learned in Humanities to look deeper and look at all sides of the story or topic. I also improved my researching skills and finding trustworthy information.
Physics: In Physics we learned about thermodynamics and how it is the study of work, heat, and energy on a system. We learned about the different laws of thermodynamics and forms of energy such as mechanical, electrical and chemical energy. We also created phase diagram which is separated into Solid ( high pressure low pressure), Gas ( High temperature, low pressure) and liquid. We then connected the phase diagram to Fahrenheit 451 such as characters that displayed absolute zero, heat of fusion and heat of vaporization. What I learned in physics could be used when we need to connect what we learn in one subject with what we learn in another.
Engineering: In Engineering we learned how to build a stirling engine, and learned the physics concept behind it. But the main product that we work on was the stirling engine. There were many components to the stirling engine such as the crankshaft, flywheel, drive pushrod, and pressure chamber etc. All these components are important to the engine working. But there were many struggles with getting it to function correctly. Some which were balancing the flywheel, having enough air from the pressure chamber, and creating the crankshaft correctly. We also learned the background physics of how the engine works. We also tested our engine with heat and ice, but our engine wasn't able to pass the test. We used engineering thinking throughout the projects by searching for small problems that affect the engine as a whole. Final Product: Exhibition was great and I was able to display our work and explain what we learned throughout the project in great depth. I talked to many people about the zine and they were impressed and agreed with what they heard and the information written. I feel that I offered my group my work ethic and ability to get the assignment/task finished, but with also great detail. I made sure that my work was praiseworthy and ready to be presented in front of an audience. In terms of work ethic I would give myself an A, because I was able to get all my work finished and praiseworthy. I also completed some extra work and got all the assigned tasks finished on time. Oral communication, I would give myself an A because I was able to share my work and explain it thoroughly. Content Knowledge I would also give myself an A, because I was able to understand the content we were learning and apply that to my work. I feel like the learning outcome I feel most strongly about is Collaboration. Collaboration is a strength because I have been able to work with my peers and never really have problems. This is a very useful skill involving anything and is something that will be used in the future. A growth that needs to be improved on is written communication. With the zine writing we could have got critique and made sure that everything was 100% correct. Was there anything that we could have done to display our work in a creative way?
