Describe what your experience was like this week.I enjoyed the experience I had this week because I was able to visit and tour around different colleges throughout the time. It something I hope continue to do throughout my time in High School is visiting other universities and be able to get the feeling and personality of the school and see if it fits my wanting.
What differences did you notice between the different schools you visited? The differences I noticed between the different colleges was the location, feeling, size and overall personality of the campus was a factor in the differences. Each and every school we visited surprisingly had a slight and large difference considering the factors I talked about. Cal Poly was a medium sized campus and it was very much like our school atmosphere educational wise, which is “learn to do”. The tour was great the campus had a variety of things to do from activities and majors on campus. The location is perfect with local beaches etc. Compared to UC Merced and Chapman University, which was the opposite in my opinion. It was very quiet, less people on campus, location is not pleasing and the majors they offer is a little amount. UC Santa Barbara I believe was the largest campus we visited and the feel of it wasn’t that great because of the people and feel of the campus.
How has this experience changed/influenced your ideas around college? For example:Being away from home/parentsThe experience was fine I will could adapt to being away from them once I get to college.Driving long distances to get homeI would either flyout from a closer airport, but if not close enough to an airport the drives will be tiring, but worth it to go back home.Being immersed in a different city/cultureIt takes a matter of time to adapt to the feel of a college, but if you go to the right type of college you'll fit right in with the culture, and you would just need to get used to the location and weather. Being responsible for taking care of yourselfBeing in college I feel like you should already be able to be responsible for taking yourself even at a younger age you should be.
What are you looking forward to the most in college? What i'm looking most for for college is getting the full experience of transitioning to the real world which is being on your own preparing to accomplish your degree and being faced with the challenges as an adult. Being in a different state/location is exciting and i'm looking forward for that. What are you most concerned about for college? What I'm most concerned about in college is the education aspect of it and how to transition into their type of teaching style and amount of work etc.
Are you interested in Study Abroad?Yes, I feel like this would be a great opportunity to finish your schooling and while doing so in a different country. It’s an experience that is very hard to pass up.
Did you hear about any clubs or organizations you would be interested in joining? There are many clubs throughout each campus we went to one which stood out to me the most was club sports. It gives you the ability to be competitive with other universities and is a great way to get involved with the school community.
What type of college (or trade school) are you interested in attending?I’m interested in attending either a UC school or a school out of the state. I feel like something to close to home isn’t the chose for me unless it is a University of California school. But it also all depends what my major is, but for now I’m unsure of what I want to do. By visiting and hearing about certain schools is pulling me into taking tours of those such campuses.
Do you think you will stay in-state, or go to another state/country? I believe I will stay in state if it’s a certain UC school, but if not I might head out of state for another university.
